How To Choose Which Trend Is Right For You: Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of my 3 part series on How To Choose Which Trend Is Right For You!

Last post we discussed a few ways in which to get to know your own unique style. Hopefully these helpful hints have you well on your way to being more comfortable with your clothes, and ultimately with yourself 🙂

Today I want to talk about….

Tip Number 2: Don’t be afraid to branch out.

I’ve heard many people say this, and have said it myself as well. “I adore (that look)….but I could never pull that off.”

What.

No.

Just….no.

Don’t accept limits like this! Don’t talk yourself down. If you adore something, don’t subject yourself to eternal wistful wishing. And good heavens, don’t let what you think others are thinking about you hold you back from enjoying your own creative expression! Fashion is most definitely a form of creative expression, and sometimes we need to push ourselves outside of our own comfort zones to really see what we are capable of. Push your own envelope. Don’t worry about everyone else. They are more than likely waiting for someone to inspire them to do the same! There is a quote by Marianne Williamson that inspires me, and it goes like this:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Isn’t that awesomely inspiring?!? Doesn’t that just make you want to roll up your sleeves and get to work on whatever that heart-stopping, soul-skipping, breath-taking project is that you’ve been holding inside your creative self for such a time as this?

After finding this quote on Hilary Rushford’s site (www.deanstreetsociety.com) I’ve been thinking furiously about it and what that might mean for myself and where the future might bring me. It’s so exciting!

And have you heard the saying, “You can have whatever you want if you dress for it”?

Just know that how you feel about your closet really does affect the way you feel about yourself, and subsequently, the way you interact with the world around you. Get on top of your closet, get to know yourself better, and become comfortable with reconciling the two. Your confidence will spill out of your closet into every area of your life, and will empower you to do things that you never would have dreamed yourself capable of previously. This week, branch out a little, and stop stuffing yourself into a box; you can’t shine that way.
